Feeling Sick

I'm feeling pretty lousy today.  I wish I had someone who could take care of me and help me feel better.  Sounds like I want my mom.  I wonder if it still works like that, if kids still want their moms when they are hurt or sick.  With today's seeming shared parenting, perhaps we are seeing a change to this?  Have you noticed a change?

Homosexual Infidelity

So today I found out that Ellen DeGeneres cheated on her spouse while her spouse was in rehab.  I mean, how low can you go?  Talk about kicking someone when they are down.  I guess homosexuals can have the same horrible problems in their relationships as heterosexuals.  I guess I was hoping homosexuality would be almost a new and improved breed of relationship, but I guess it's got the same old horrible aspects in it.  That is disappointing.

Interesting Article

This article mentions a lot of things that we associate today as being "feminine" or "for girls", but apparently they were quite the opposite long ago.

One of the first things mentioned was the colors we associate with the sexes.  Everybody today seems to "know" that pink is for girls and blue is for boys.  Apparently it used to be the opposite.  The article mentions that almost 100 years ago, it was decided that pink was a strong color, and therefore should be linked to boys.  It was apparently also decided that blue was prettier and would be better associated with girls.  I'm not sure exactly when that was flipped to what we know today, but I find the rationale behind the color assignments quite fascinating.  I think today we sort of just accept that pink is for girls and blue is for boys, and I don't think as much attention is paid to why those colors may have been assigned the way they were.  Perhaps we are moving toward more acceptance of what it is to be a particular gender versus thinking of genders by the generalized limitations society imposed on them so long ago.

I wonder what Thomas Jefferson and the other signatories of the Declaration of Independence would think of our independent nation now?

I was chatting with a coworker today, and a discussion of differences in parental  involvement between genders came up.  It was mentioned that females tend to be more involved and engaged with their children, while males tend to be critical, often pushing their kids to tough it out.  What experiences have you had as a child and/or as a parent?

Empty Nesting

Our family events of the last week have passed, and now I'm ready to settle back into some sort of normalcy.  This will be short-lived, however.  We have another significant event coming up, and my ex and I are about to embark on "Empty Nest Syndrome".  Although really, my ex's residence won't be empty, as his significant other has children.  But for me, I will truly have an empty nest.  But even if my ex doesn't have the nest empty, it still isn't the same, since our child isn't there.  I am wondering how we will each handle this significant change.  I'm also wondering how different of an experience this would be based on our genders.  So far we have both cried, so gender doesn't seem to be a factor there.  Of course I haven't yet measured frequency or duration, so perhaps there are some differences there!
