"Two Different Tween Worlds"
Some interesting differences pointed out between girls and boys in the "tween" years (8-12). I question the validity of the statements of boys being so binary. While they do seem to answer questions only "yes" or "no", I have found that even this age group and even this gender is well able to multitask. I believe the multitasking ability in the younger generations is incredible.

BOYS vs GIRLS: the gender differences of #inbeTWEENers
Posted on April 26, 2013
Tweens are often termed the ‘inbetweeners’, caught between the kiddie world that’s focused on fantasy/play and the fledgling world of teenagerdom that’s about self expression within the group. Marketers looking to engage with tweens in todays digital environment need to understand that there are huge gender differences between boys and girls aged 8-12.
...
Put simply tween girls are all about the social context, playing in co-operation with their friends as they do things online. Once they hit 12-13yrs however, this co-operation turns into competition. We’re seeing the new digital trend of Instagram beauty pageants where girls post selfies and compete with each other as to who’s hot or not.
...
On the flipside, unsurprisingly, tween boys are about adventure, action, gadgets. They’re visual rather than being verbal focused in their interaction. Their gaming world has trained them to focus on a hero character as the social context is less important. They want brands to be quick and to the point, bold colours and graphics and get excited by symbols of achievement as they compete with their friends in everything. Tween boy world is binary – yes or no and they are extremely single tasked focused.

Maybe Women Are More Shallow Than We Thought
Women prefer good-looking men to high-earning men.
May 11, 2010 — Restructure!
Women prefer physically attractive men to high-earning men:
When male geeks talk about what (heterosexual) women want in men, they typically assert that women evolved to be attracted to a man’s resources, while men evolved to be attracted to a woman’s physical attractiveness. (Sometimes, this evolutionary psychology argument is used to justify the gender gap in earnings; they argue that men earn more than women because men’s evolutionary fitness depends on earning money, while women’s evolutionary fitness allegedly does not.) Such male IT geeks then complain that their difficulty attracting women must because they are “low status” males who do not make enough money, even when IT is a lucrative industry.
In reality, however, what women and men look for in a partner are pretty much the same. Perhaps those male IT geeks whofalsely believe that women are attracted to “alpha male” jerks should work on their physical appearance and personality.

Men vs Women: Brain Connectivity
This is fascinating. I wonder why a difference in gender would lead to a consistent difference in brain connectivity (or vice verse). It certainly also helps to explain why men and women seem to be so different in so many things. I would like to also see a similar study conducted on homosexual individuals. Does the difference in connectivity have to do with the biological, physical differences between genders regardless of sexual orientation? Or is there an emotional and/or psychological component to this? What do you think?

A More Contemporary Interpretation
Here's an interesting interpretation of various gender continuums by Sam Killermann. He's apparently even written a book about this. Perhaps this is the mark of contemporary gender roles. What do you think?

Men vs Women: Childcare
Technically this is about men vs women in households where the woman is the breadwinner. But in spite of being the breadwinner, it appears that women still tend to do more of the childcare than the men in the family. It would be interesting to compare this to families in which the male is the breadwinner, where we assume the women do much more of the childcare than the men. How does it work in your family? My mother always worked, as did my father. And certainly my mother did all the childcare. Although that was a different generation. Certainly today men are more likely to be involved in the childcare than men of previous generations. And it seems like you have a lot of dual-earning families these days, much more so than before. It would be interesting to see how the percentages below would change if you threw in statistics about daycare-type situations.

Never Forget
Oh yes, I have heard many comments that totally fit this quote! I've heard from guys who complain about their gals who have memories of elephants and never, ever let something go! And I've heard just as many complaints by women that their guys can't remember anything they tell them, so why do they bother to tell them anything! What has your experience been?

Be True To Yourself
This is right on the money. I like to talk about stereotypes that exist about differences in gender. But really, it is absolutely true that we should not be focusing on those stereotypes. We really do need to focus on self-development regardless of gender. I think we as a society have become better about that over the decades, but we could still do more along those lines. What do you think?

Initiation of Drug Use - Gender Differences
Interesting tidbit of information here regarding the susceptibility of women to initiate drug use. I thought that perhaps drug use might be more prevalent in males over females, but apparently women are at least more likely to get started than men, at least according to the study represented. If true, you would probably expect to see a preponderance of women using drugs over men.
I started thinking about this because my son and I have been watching the last 3 episodes of AMC's TV show "Breaking Bad" tonight. We've gotten through 2/3, one to go!

Pedophilia
I am very shocked by this news story today about actor Stephen Collins allegedly being a pedophile. But putting my shock and disgust aside, I thought I'd check and see if I can find any statistics about male pedophiles with female victims. I found this:
• All but 3% of offenders who committed violent crimes against children were male.
- BJS Survey of State Prison Inmates, 1991
- BJS Survey of State Prison Inmates, 1991
•The typical offender is male, begins molesting by age 15, engages in a variety of deviant behavior, and molests an average of 117 youngsters, most of whom do not report the offense.- Dr. Gene Abel in a National Institute of Mental Health Study
from:
It makes me wonder why there is such a large gender difference in terms of who is a pedophile. It's possible that the data is skewed of course. There could be a lot of instances where a female is the pedophile with a male victim and the occurrence is unreported. It could also have something to do with physical strength. Males tend to be stronger than females, so it could be that female pedophiles are out there but just unable to do anything with stronger males. But assuming for a second that the data is truly accurate, it makes you wonder why there is such a large gender difference in who is a pedophile. I'm not at all trying to knock guys here. I am wondering what would potentially lead to this situation.
Well regardless of the data, this whole situation is sickening. I hope the truth is fully revealed and the victims are able to get some kind of closure from this.

Perception
We sometimes see things the way we see them because it is the way we expect them to be. So are gender differences really there? Or do we just expect to see them there? What do you think?

Analytical or Over Analytical?
This is so funny. It seems like women really take many more factors into consideration when they are making their decisions. Perhaps that is part of what helps women to supposedly be better able to multi-task than men? Or perhaps it is part of what helps men to supposedly be better able to take charge and make decisions than women? Do you find yourself considering multiple aspects of a product or situation before making your decision? Or do you find yourself cutting to the chase and just making the decision (shampoo is shampoo after all)?

What Do You Want From a Man/Woman?
I posted 2 articles from "Elite Daily". One is about what women want in a man, and the other is what men want in a woman. I have to say, I liked the article about what women want from men better than what men want from women. I'm not saying that I disagree or agree with the author, but I did not like how the article was written. But it was the closest "match" I could find. I wanted to try to give a somewhat equal counterpoint here. It isn't perfect, but it will suffice.
Obviously we can talk about stereotypes about what men want vs what women want. But I was hoping for a discussion of a more serious nature. When you are looking for that one person you are going to spend the rest of your life with, what is it that you are looking for? What do you want? If you are involved now, do you have what you want in your relationship?
I myself have been in several relationships, most of which obviously have failed at one point or another (or I would still be in those relationships). Is it that I expect too much? Perhaps I'm looking for an unattainable ideal? Would you like to comment on successes and/or failures you have had in your relationships? I would love to chat with you!

Negative or Positive, Feminine or Masculine
What do you think of these axes? We have the negative/positive axis vs the feminine/masculine axis. I liked the way there were some positive traits listed for males and for females, though it seemed that the "positive feminine" was a little sparse.
What would you add to this? Would you take anything away? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Please feel free to comment!

Men vs Women: Communication Styles
I have heard this before, that men state it like it is, right to the point, and women do not. It's interesting to think of women always prefacing and apologizing. I hadn't really thought about that. I will have to make some observations and see if that seems true. I will say though that I had a female boss once who would always say, "maybe it would be a good idea if you ..." before she told you what she wanted you to do. Have you noticed any differences between male and female bosses in your career?
